Guy “Dr. DisRespect” Beahm has received a lifetime ban from Twitch TV. The streamer, which was one of the biggest personalities on the platform, had his channel disabled on June 26th, 2020. Since then, the community has created a series of theories about the reason for the punishment. Since the platform does not usually disclose this information. Rumours have been raised about the creation of his own platform, breach of contract, and even something more serious involving sexual harassment.
In an interview with the Washington Post website, last on 17th July, the player stated that he simply has no idea why he is not allowed on the platform. Below, we will have a comprehensive look into the mysterious ban that Dr. DisRespect received from the biggest broadcasting site.
Who is Dr. DisRespect?
Herschel “Guy” Beahm is an American gaming streamer. He started his career on Twitch in 2010 and soon became a phenomenon with his character: Dr. Disrespect. Self-lablled as “the most relentless competitor in video game history”, Doc has an explosive, sarcastic, cartoonish personality and great skill in shooting games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Apex Legends. Before his ban, the streamer had more than 4.4 million followers on the platform, and had only one ban before, which he received during E3 2019.
Theories about the ban
Twitch does not publicly comment on bans applied to streamers. In a note to the dbltap website on June 26, a spokesman for the platform said that “the company has followed its standard protocols regarding violations of its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service”.
After almost a month of silence, the player gave his first interview since his ban on the Washington Post website on 17th July. Dr. DisRespect said he simply has no idea why he was excluded from the platform.
Some esports journalists and influencers claim to know the reason but say they can not reveal it. Since then, several theories trying to explain the episode have emerged. It is worth noting, however, that none of them has been confirmed.
The most intiguing theory behind the ban involves an alleged case of sexual harassment. According to the Sausage Roll website, Doc had an affair with a young woman in 2017 and now she has documents that prove that she was abused by the streamer. She shared this material with Twitch some time ago. Now, she would be planning to make the case public and would have asked the platform to take the channel down. So far, however, no complaints have been made to support this theory.
On July 3rd, YouTuber Daniel “Keemstar” Keem published a video with another theory. He recalls that Dr. DisRespect claimed to have received a million-dollar offer from Mixer. Twitch, for its part, signed the $ 20 million contract to keep him on the platform and prevent the migration of streamers to the Microsoft platform. The end of the Mixer was announced last month, and Doc was banned days later. For Keemstar, the ban may have been to avoid paying the million-dollar contract.
